Naveen-ul-Haq, an Afghan fast bowler, aims to retire from his ODI career after the coming ICC Cricket World Cup in India in 2023. On September 27, the 24-year-old declared his decision known via a social media post.

In T20Is, Naveen confirmed that he would continue to represent Afghanistan. The clever young man claimed that he answered the phone to further his career.

"It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard And all my fans for their support and unwavering love" he wrote on instagram.

It is important to note that Naveen-ul-Haq had knee surgery earlier this year, stopping him from playing in Afghanistan's two-match T20I series against Bangladesh.

The seamer hasn't played a significant role for Afghanistan in ODI matches. In January 2021, he played in the format for the first time against Ireland. In seven ODIs, he has taken 14 wickets.

Naveen took a little leave from ODIs last year to get ready for the Australia 2022 T20 World Cup.
