Before playing the third ODI against Australia, Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur were sent home

Axar Patel ruled out from 3rd ODI

The Indian team, captained by KL Rahul, has the opportunity to sweep the three-match ODI series before hosting the ODI World Cup. On Sunday, India defeated Australia by 99 runs in Indore despite playing bad weather. Just a few days before completing their record-breaking ninth Asia Cup title haul, they had won the series opener on Friday in Mohali. Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur, two of India's finest players, will now join the team for the World Cup campaign, but they will miss the final match on September 27 in Rajkot.

Gill and Thakur will not play in the third and final game of the series, according to a report on Indian Express on Monday. Gill had just struck his record-setting sixth ODI century at the Holkar Stadium in the second game against the Australians. They have been given a break by the team management, thus they won't fly to Rajkot with the team. The two will next join the Indian team in Guwahati for India's opening World Cup warm-up game.

Before the World Cup, the Indian team management has been considering how to manage a few players' workloads. For the first two games against Australia, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav were rested.BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had explained the move saying: "Luckily we got a fair amount of cricket at the Asia Cup. If not, we would've looked at it some other way. More than physical, sometimes guys need a mental break, which isn't a bad thing leading into a tournament like the World Cup."

The three remaining matches against Australia will feature the four players at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. According to a BCCI statement issued on Sunday, Jasprit Bumrah will also be travelling with the Indian team to Rajkot after the star bowler received a break from the second ODI to spend time with his family. He had been replaced in the group by Mukesh Kumar.
