Records for the third-shortest ODI in history In the Asia Cup final, India defeated Sri Lanka with a resounding victory.
Runs, records, and rain. India made history at the Asia Cup 2023 when Rohit Sharma and company won the coveted trophy for a record-breaking eighth time on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj, destroyed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023 championship match at Colombo's famous R.Premadasa Stadium. The final match was won by Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan in just 6.1 overs.
Sri Lanka was bowled out for the second-lowest score in ODI history by Rohit's Team India. Earlier, in the 2012 ODI encounter in Paarl, South Africa dismissed the Lankan Lions for 43. The 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka by Team India was their largest ODI victory in terms of remaining balls. India outclassed Sri Lanka in 6.1 overs with 263 balls left. India's previous record was set in Bloemfontein 2001 when the Men in Blue hammered Kenya with 231 balls remaining.
India's second 10-wicket victory in a championship came as a result of its thrashing of Sri Lanka. In the 1998 Sharjah final, India had earlier defeated Zimbabwe by a margin of 10 wickets. The Asia Cup final was bowled with just 129 balls. In terms of balls bowled, the summit match that just ended is the third-shortest ODI match. In 15.2 overs, Sri Lanka collapsed for 50 runs, while India finished off the title-winning chase in just 37 deliveries.
The low total Sri Lanka scored also gave India the opportunity to make further history in the 50-over format. India has never lost an ODI cricket match by dismissing a team for less than 50 runs. In the 2000 Champions Trophy match against India, Sri Lanka scored the lowest total (54) ever.
