After six years, Virat Kohli is returning to bowl in ODIs as India faces a major injury blow against BAN

Team India had a significant blow when Hardik Pandya, the team's top all-rounder, was injured early in the 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh. When the event happened, Hardik had only bowled his third ball of the game and it was the ninth over of Bangladesh's innings. Hardik stumbled on his follow-through while attempting to field a straight shot from Litton Das off his own bowling, breaking his leg.

The team physio quickly attended to the all-around player as he attempted to continue. To the collective dismay of the crowd, Hardik was finally forced to leave the pitch as it became clear that the injury was more serious than first believed.

The squad had to swiftly reassemble while Kohli and Rohit Sharma spoke on the pitch. Kohli ultimately finished the rest of the over, much to the instant pleasure of the crowd.

The team management would be hopeful that Hardik Pandya's injury is not severe because he would still play a crucial part in India's World Cup campaign in 2023. Hardik continues to be a pillar in India's batting order and a key contributor with the ball, giving their squad a tonne of depth and power.

This is not the first time Hardik has had to deal with a potential injury; after the T20 World Cup in 2021, a back issue forced him to miss a significant amount of time from professional cricket. During the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), he made a stunning comeback, and soon he was back with the Indian team. His strong showings after rejoining the international team not only cemented his position but also led to him taking over the captaincy in T20Is earlier this year. Pandya was also given the vice-captaincy position in ODIs, a duty he is now carrying out at the current World Cup.

While finishing Hardik's over, Kohli let up two runs in three deliveries. It was Kohli's first bowling action in international cricket this year and his first arm roll in an ODI in over six years.

*India aim to make 4 in 4
India has won its first three games in the 2023 World Cup, winning against Australia, Afghanistan, and bitter foe Pakistan. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh's acting captain, won the toss and decided to bat in their fourth match, which was played at Pune.
