Shubman Gill's quick recovery has given him a great chance to make the World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan on Saturday in Ahmedabad. There was a very slim likelihood that Gill would be available for the Pakistan match up until Tuesday. After all, he had only been released from the hospital the previous evening. However, things started to go well by Wednesday night when Gill flew directly from Chennai to Ahmedabad. On Thursday morning, he went to his first practise in almost a week.
Gill appeared to be having fun in video that Star Sports showed of him before he went to the nets at approximately 11:30 in the morning. He was joined by throwdown expert Nuwan Seneviratne and Team India physio Kamlesh. Gill batted in the Motera nets for about an hour. As there was no other Indian team member available, he participated in throwdowns and played local net bowlers. The nicest thing was that he didn't appear to be in any pain. The 24-year-old also participated in few catches towards the conclusion of the workout to improve his fielding abilities.
With more than 24 hours till the Pakistan match, Gill will participate in his second full practise session on Friday night with the rest of the Indian cricket team. There is no reason to think he won't be able to play in his first World Cup match on Saturday if he performs well. This also implies that the administration of the Indian squad has abandoned all plans to choose backup players Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad.
"I believe we can put a stop to all suppositions. Against Pakistan, Shubman Gill will undoubtedly participate in the game. He is too talented a player to be left out. He only had a temperature. He's recovered now. The idea that we may even consider replacements was not in the least bit alarming. The information you are hearing (about the severity of the sickness) is all rumour" according to former India chairman of selectors MSK Prasad, who is a Telugu cricket specialist for Star Sports at this World Cup.
Gill, according to Prasad, skipped the India vs. Afghanistan game in Delhi out of caution. As a precaution, he couldn't play the second game, but otherwise, according to what we heard, he was alright. He remained in Chennai for an additional day out of prudence. He was released after making a full recovery. A player who is playing for 1 bour indicates that he has recovered. Against Pakistan, this game is crucial. If he is healthy, which I am confident he is, then he should be in India's starting lineup, he continued.
*The unbelievable record set by Gill at the Narendra Modi Stadium
For two reasons, it would be extremely beneficial for India if Gill played against Pakistan. Ishan Kishan can perform satisfactorily at the top of the order, but he lacks Gill's level of stability. Additionally, Gill has an unrivalled track record in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Although Gill hasn't yet played an ODI at the venue, in the three Tests and one T20I he has played there, he has averaged 93 and scored two centuries. And to top it all off, he played for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL on his home pitch of Motera. In previous competition, he scored hundreds of runs at this location.
"He has played all of his professional cricket on this pitch. Every piece of this landscape is clear to him. He is skilled at getting runs here. He should undoubtedly play given his performance at this venue and over the last 12 months. We did not need him throughout the first several games, particularly against Afghanistan. The others handled their jobs well, but Pakistan is also coming off of two victories as we speak. We should enter the game with the strongest XI possible. Ishan, of course, performed admirably in the second game, but with Shubman Gill there, you have one more match-winner in your starting lineup. He doesn't need to go slam-bang as he would in a T20 match. He may take his time, prepare himself, take up the crease, and then observe the action. I'd want to see him in the starting XI.,"the former India keeper-batter said.
