After Kohli sets up India's victory over Bangladesh, Rohit provides a critical update on Hardik Pandya

After India defeated Bangladesh to win the One Day International (ODI) World Cup 2023 for the fourth time in a row, attention returned to all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who suffered an injury while bowling in the recently finished match at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday. In the powerplay against Bangladesh, India's captain Rohit Sharma had to ask Virat Kohli to pick up the ball and finish off Hardik's over.

Kohli curled his arms for India in an ODI for the first time in six years. When Kohli last bowled for India against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2017, he recorded statistics of 0-12 in two overs. On Thursday, Kohli needed to throw three balls to finish Bangladesh's innings' ninth over. The Men in Blue's iconic batsman continued to play a great ball to give Rohit's team yet another easy victory. As Team India thrashed a helpless Bangladesh squad that was severely depleted without its normal leader Shakib Al Hasan, Kohli hit his 48th century.

*'Nothing really major…’: Rohit on Pandya's injury

In addition to discussing India's success, Rohit updated the crowd on Hardik's ankle injury at the post-game awards ceremony. "He (Hardik) pulled up a little sore, but it's nothing to be too concerned about. We'll wait until tomorrow morning to see how he pulls up before deciding how to proceed. Everyone on the team has experienced pressure, the audience is showing up in large numbers, the stadium is packed, they haven't let us down, they've played brilliantly, and I have no doubt that they will become louder and louder as the game progresses, added Rohit.

*Ankle injury for Pandya

While delivering his first over in World Cup match No. 17 between India and Bangladesh, pacer Pandya injured his ankle. Pandya attempted to use his right foot to block Bangladesh starter Litton Das' straight shot with the third delivery of the ninth over. The Indian fast bowler twisted his left ankle and fell to the ground.

Das(Liton) struck Pandya with two successive boundaries in the same over. Pandya was given a protracted on-field treatment before being allowed to resume bowling. Pandya's right ankle was wrapped, but even then he was unable to move forward. Before leaving the game, the great all-rounder had a quick conversation with the captain, Rohit. Suryakumar Yadav took his place since the injured all-rounder afterwards had scans.
